Transportation/Emergency Management
 
Coordinating emergency and traffic management with the City of Houston, TXDOT and Metro under one roof at our TranStar location.
Using Intelligent Transportation System technology, such as cameras and signalization, to relieve congestion.
Offering Immediate notification of school closings on Emergency Management web site (http://www.hcoem.org/).
Providing all schools in Harris County with weather radios for immediate notification of threatening weather conditions and emergencies.


Clean Air
 
Harris County is initiating new monitoring systems to insure compliance with federal and state regulations, funding computer modeling to base our clean air decisions on the best information possible and searching for the newest and most cost effective technologies to clean our air.
The County established an ozone notification system so that children, the elderly and On-Line... others vulnerable to respiratory problems Not In Line can be alerted to high levels of ozone as soon as possible.


 

 

Safe Neighborhoods
 
Our radio communications system allows over 70 police agencies to communicate with each other in an emergency.
 
Mobile Data Terminals in our police cars allow officers to check outstanding warrants on the spot and to make police reports electronically.
 
Our crime victim notification system (VINE) allows crime victims to be notified when the criminal’s status has changed, such as being released on bond.
 
Video conferencing in the Criminal Justice Center minimizes transport of defendants.

Where we are going...
 
Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) allowing police agencies county-wide to coordinate dispatching activities, getting help to victims of crime as soon as possible.
Voter registration on-line – making participation in our democracy as easy as possible.
New electronic voting system – making sure that when you vote it is as easy as possible and that the results are secure and accurate.
Expanding video conferencing county-wide – saving taxpayers time and money.
