Veteran Jurist To Take Oath Of Office Tuesday Morning

Harris County Judge Ed Emmett announced today that he has appointed veteran Judge R. Jack Cagle as Harris County’s new Precinct 4 commissioner.

Cagle, 50, is expected to take the oath of office Tuesday morning, just prior to Harris County’s mid-year budget and policy review and regularly scheduled meeting. He will replace outgoing Commissioner Jerry Eversole, who resigned last month after more than 20 years in office.

“During this process, my goal was to find someone who could best serve the constituents of Precinct 4,” Emmett said. “I met with and spoke with dozens of folks in the community about the Precinct 4 commissioner’s position in recent weeks. Jack quickly emerged as the top candidate because of his mature judgment, keen intellect, unquestioned integrity and his many years of work in the community. He will serve the residents of Precinct 4 with great passion and hard work, and I genuinely look forward to working with him in the years to come.”

Until his appointment to Commissioners Court, Cagle served more than 10 years as judge of Harris County Civil Court-at-Law No. 1. He was elected to the bench countywide in 2000 and reelected in 2002, 2004 and 2010. Judge Cagle has consistently earned among the highest ratings from the Houston Bar Association and has earned several local awards from local groups during his tenure on the bench.

“I appreciate Judge Emmett’s faith in appointing me to represent more than 1 million of my friends and neighbors in Precinct 4,” said Cagle. “I am keenly aware of my new responsibilities, and I promise to work as quickly as possible to acquaint myself with the area’s ongoing projects and to hear from as many of my new constituents as possible.”

As the newest member of Commissioners Court, Cagle joins Emmett and commissioners El Franco Lee of Precinct 1, Jack Morman of Precinct 2 and Steve Radack of Precinct 3.
